RESIDENCE PERMIT - First Time Application
(FOR RENEWAL APPLICATION OR RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS - PLEASE SEE BELOW)
In order to get your residence permit valid for the whole study period, you should have a passport valid for all study years.
Your Residence Permit may be processed for 4 years if;
1. your passport is valid for 4 years
2. you get yourself insured for 4 years
The validity of your residence permit cannot exceed the date of expiry of your passport. Therefore, before coming to Türkiye, please check that you have a sufficiently valid passport (or plan to renew your passport in Türkiye or, in some cases, back in your home country; after your enrollement at AGU).
The application process is as follows:
- Go to the official Residence Permit Application platform and fill the online application form here (link). PLEASE FIND HERE (LINK) AN ONLINE STEP-BY-STEP APPLICATION GUIDE.
- Pick a day for your individual appointment (please select the earliest available date, starting from 2 weeks after your arrival in Kayseri) and print your filled application form.
- If possible, please make sure to pay the Residence Permit fee ( 565 TL in 2024) via the online system. Print your payment receipt*.
- Come to the Abdullah Gül University and complete your registration (please read the information about the Diploma Equivalency, required for registration).
- Collect all necessary documents:
a) Filled Online Application Form | Print and sign on the last page |
b) Payment Receipt | Pay online in the Application platform (credit card) and print receipt, or pay in cash at the Tax Office |
c) 4 ID Photos | Recent Passport style photos |
d) Passport and Photocopies | Photocopy your passport ID page (and validity date page if separate), your visa page, and page bearing the latest stamp of entry into Türkiye. |
e) Student Certificate | To be obtained, signed and stamped, from the Student Affairs office. Student certificate must bear your photo (to be uploaded on UIS. |
f) Foreign Student Information Form | Yabancı Uyruklu Öğrenci Bilgi Formu" download the document here. Replace the Yellow Items with your own information DO NOT leave any yellow text. After filling it, please print it and have it signed & stamped by the Student Affairs office. |
g) Proof of Accommodation |
Students living in the AGU dorms can obtain an accommodation letter from the the Health, Culture, Sports Department (SKS). Allow minimum 2 days processing time of your housing certificate request. -If you stay in a flat you need to get your title deed document photocopy - If you stay in a rented house you need to get your rental agreement -If you stay in a hotel you need to get a document from them -If you stay in off campus dormitories you need to get your accommodation letter from them |
h) Proof of Health Insurance Coverage | Students planning to subscribe to the Turkish State Health Insurance (SGK) still need to be covered by a private insurance for the first 4 months of their stay. If you get yourself insured for 4 years, your residence permit will be issued for 4 years. You will not need to renew your İkamet until it expires (4 years). |
i) Underage Students: 1- "Authorisation of Temporary Guardianship" 2- Birth Certificate |
1- "Authorisation of Temporary Guardianship" Template to be obtained from the AGU International Office before coming to Türkiye. To be signed by the parents in English and Turkish and notarized (and apostilled if the underage student comes from an Apostille Convention Signatory country) 2- "Birth Certificate". Underage students must bring an Apostilled birth certificate for the purpose of the residence permit application. If the underage studentsdoes not come from an Apostille Convention Signatory country, the birth certificate should be notarized. |
After completing your necessary documents please go Student Affairs department. They will guide you.
Students whose residence permit has expired must extend it within maximum 15 days or leave Türkiye. In case of an address change, the students should inform the police within 48 hours. There should be no erasures or scrapes on the residence permit. In case of loss, the Turkish National Police/ Foreigners Unit should immediately be notified.
*Students who are not able to pay online should pay in cash at the Kaleönü Tax Office in Kayseri before going to their appointment at the Immigration Office. Directions to the Tax Office (behind Adalet Sarayı/adliye): HERE

RESIDENCE PERMIT - Renewal Application
You can start your online renewal application 60 DAYS prior to your current residence permit's expiry date.
Once your current residence permit card is expired, you have 10 days to apply for renewal (complicated and not recommended! Please apply for renewal PRIOR to expiry of your current card!) After your expiry date system will automatically charge you some amount of money. (1295 TRY by 2023 January). If you apply for renewal within 10 days (right after your expired date) you will have the chance to apply by paying the penalty amount. If you still do not apply for renewal after 10 days of expire date, situation gets complicated and even you may have to leave the counrty.
The validity of your residence permit cannot exceed the date of expiry of your passport. Therefore, before renewing your residence permit, please check that you have a sufficiently valid passport (or plan to renew your passport in Türkiye or in your home country during semester breaks).
The application process is as follows:

- Pick a day for your individual appointment and print your filled application form.
- The Residence Permit fee (565 TL in 2024) can be paid online or at the Tax Office (behing Adalet Sarayı/Adliye building). Print your payment receipt*.
- Collect all necessary documents:

"Adli Sicil". can be obtained online via E-Devlet online platform. This online service is accessed using your Residcence Permit number (99---) and a "E-Devlet Şifresi" which you can obtain from the post office (PTT) for a few Lira). You can find HERE a STEP-BY-STEP guide on how to obtain you Criminal Record. You can also obtain it without E-Devlet account, by going to the Courthouse (Adliye). |

RESIDENCE PERMIT - Application For AGU Exchange Students (Erasmus or Bilateral Agreement)
The validity of your residence permit cannot exceed the end date of your exchange at AGU. Please also check the validity of your passport before coming to Türkiye.
The application process is as follows:
- Go to the official Residence Permit Application platform and fill the online application form here (link). PLEASE FIND HERE (LINK) AN ONLINE STEP-BY-STEP APPLICATION GUIDE. For Erasmus students, in "Reason for Stay" (page 20 of our step-by-step guide), please select "Erasmus Exchange". For bilateral agreement students (non-Erasmus Exchange), please select "Other Exchange Program".
- Pick a day for your individual appointment and print your filled application form.
- The Residence Permit fee (356 TL in 2023) can be paid online or at the Tax Office*. Print your payment receipt.
- Collect all necessary documents:

WORK PERMIT
This residence permit is issued for educational purposes. Students who wish to work may do so by obtaining a work permit. However, for undergraduate students, the right to work starts after their first year of education and may not be more than twenty four hours a week. This residence permit does not make the parents and other relatives of the student eligible for a residence permit.
We would like to remind you that it is your responsibility to be aware of and act according to these rules and regulations. Please pay attention to these in order to avoid any serious legal problems and financial penalties in the future.
Legal action is taken against students who do not follow the procedures explained above.
