Surpassing the world's most prestigious universities such as Cambridge, Oxford, and Yale, and being the only university from Türkiye to enter the rankings, Abdullah Gül University (AGU) achieved great success by being ranked 15th in the 2023 WURI Global Top 100 Innovative Universities list. AGU has also ranked first in the world in the Top 50 Student Mobility and Openness category of WURI 2023.
Created by the Hanseatic League of Universities to evaluate the real contributions of universities to society, the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) 2023 Rankings were announced at the ceremony held at the HLU Conference taken place at Florida Gulf Coast University in Florida, USA.
According to the announced list, AGU, which was in the 23rd rank last year, achieved a great international success by rising to the 15th rank this year. AGU, which surpassed the world-renowned universities such as Cambridge, Oxford, Yale, Johns Hopkins, and Columbia in the list, became the only university from Türkiye to enter the list. In the Top 50 Student Mobility and Openness category, AGU surpassed all universities and ranked first in the world.
AGU, which aims to make advanced contributions to science and society with its scientific research and innovative educational approach, was ranked 37th in the Top 50 Industrial Application category.
Rector Prof. Dr. Cengiz Yılmaz said that although AGU is still a very young university, it has once again proven its innovative and leadership quality by appearing in the list of the most respected universities in the world. Stating that AGU is rapidly progressing towards becoming an internationally respected university, Prof. Dr. Yılmaz thanked everyone who contributed to this success.
AGU Rector Prof. Dr. Cengiz Yılmaz and Rector of the Minerva University, Mike Magee, attended the ceremony as special guests of the executive board of the Hanseatic League of Universities, and both rectors have also become the new members of the HL’s Executive Board.
The WURI consider universities' creative and innovative approaches in research and education programs. The rankings evaluate universities' real contributions to society in six different categories: Student Mobility and Openness, Industrial Application, Entrepreneurial Spirit, Ethical Value, Crisis Management, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
