The Abdullah Gül University (AGU) ranked among the best universities (101-200) in the latest Times Higher Education International Ranking.
The international higher education rating agency Times Higher Education (THE) announced the results of its University Impact Ranking 2019 on April 3rd 2019.
In this new ranking, which evaluated over 500 institutions from 75 countries and which is based on United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)*, AGU was ranked as part of the 101-200 most impactful universities, and the youngest university in the Top 200.
*”The 17 goals – which include providing inclusive and equitable quality education, achieving gender equality and fostering innovation – were adopted by the UN in 2016 and provide a framework for developing the world in a sustainable way.”
“The Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings is the world’s first global attempt to document evidence of universities’ impact on society, rather than just research and teaching performance. […]
Phil Baty, chief knowledge officer at THE, said that the rankings “offer an alternative view of university excellence” and “develop an unprecedented picture of the extraordinary impact that universities have across a huge range of activities”.”
Reflecting the great emphasis placed by AGU on “Societal Impact”, the most important mission of contemporary and innovative universities, AGU achieved spectacular success, particularly in the following 3 categories:
Alongside AGU, other Turkish Universities also performed well in the ranking. Özyeğin University ranked 72nd, Hacettepe University 87th and Koç University 92nd. Ankara University and Boğaziçi University are also listed in the 101-200 range.
The first edition of the University Impact Ranking includes metrics based on 11 of the United Nations SDGs. AGU topped the table as best Turkish university in 4 of them, including in the “Quality Education” category.
This major accomplishment will serve as a milestone on AGU’s road to achieving its key missions: “Seek solutions to global challenges and developing citizens able to positively impact our global societies”.
AGU was established in 2011 with the ambition to become a world-class research university seeking solutions to global challenges and developing citizens able to positively impact our global societies. Being ranked in the Top 100 of such a reputable ranking is therefore an appreciated recognition, rewarding AGU’s innovative approach and strong commitment to successfully blend all 3 University Missions: Education, Research and Societal Impact.
